My legs were weary, having ridden my bicycle daily since Barcelona. My ears were weary, straining to discern the few words and phrases in French I had learned. The sign, "English spoken" was the magnet that drew me to turn into the drive at Le Manoir des Granges.
The comfort, the surroundings, the personality of the owners, was the magnet that drew me back three weeks later, this time with my wife and 12 year-old grand daughter.
If you are searching for places in the Dordogne you surely know the area is filled with world class prehistoric and medieval sites and settlements. Scores of them. Paul and Philippa's place is nestled in the heart the region; central to all. La Roque Saint Christopher seems a logical first-morning starting point to the Dordogne experience because it's only a short walk across the bridge to step back centuries in this UNESCO World Heritage site.... within view of your patio!
The units are very comfortable and well appointed. The hosts are thoroughly knowledgeable and generous with information and suggestions and they are genuine in their hospitality. We extended our stay and would love to return.

We had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful Dordogne. We stayed in the walnut store for 6 nights. It was comfortable, clean, well positioned and quaint. The surrounding country side was very scenic. There was much to explore - villages, castles, chateaux, cave paintings, markets, prehistoric sites etc. Philippa and Paul were very welcoming and excellent advisors. Thank you so much. We loved it!

Paul and Philippa are just simply wonderful people: we had a slight mishap whilst staying at the Haybarn and they went m***vely out of their way to help us and really couldn't have done more. The Gite itself is lovely and location stunning. We loved our stay there and will hopefully be back.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights in late March 2015 in the Gite facing the cliffs of La Rogue St. Christopher - Roque Terrace. We had a wonderful stay for so early in the season. Paul and Philippa graciously helped us narrow down the sites to see, markets to visit and places to eat resulting in a great short vacation in the Dordogne. The Gite was clean, comfortable, well appointed and quiet. The views of the cliffs were impressive, especially when they were lit up at night. We would gladly stay here again on a future trip to the region.

Paul and Phillipa were *** hosts making us feel very welcome. They ensured we had information regarding where to go and what to do as a family in the local area, regularly checking that we had enjoyed our excursions. The tobacco barn was well equipped and ideal with the pool just outside the door. The scenery was *** with breakfast and BBQs overlooking an unbeatable view. We were made to feel at home and part of an extended family resulting in one of the most memorable holidays we have had, thank you!

We had dreamed of a quiet Gite, sun glinting off a pool, surrounded by historic villages, lazy rivers and pastoral French scenes .We were taking our Golden Retriever on her first trip abroad so needed space and dog friendly owners , and we hoped to meet some nice folk along the way .
We stayed at the Haybarn in early September. The accommodation is a lovely converted farm outbuilding within the grounds of Le Manoir des Granges ,a delightful old manor farm set amongst open fields and fruit trees. Owners Philippa and Paul ,were everything good hosts aspire to be . Their thoughtful approach to each of their guests has to be experienced to be fully appreciated , for they have time for everyone and know just when to offer advice , conversation or privacy ,that only comes with experience. As an old saying goes, we arrived as strangers but left as friends.
Our stay was very comfortable , the Haybarn’s bed has set new standards for holiday comfort, and the Gite has everything we could have wanted and more. The pool is kept spotless and we could mix with the other guests as we chose around the barbeque and pergola .
There are beautiful walks from the Gite , up into wooded hills, down along the banks of the river Vezere or into the hamlet of Peyzac Le Moustier for the morning collection of Baguette or Croissant .
Every day we found a new restaurant to try, another Chateau to visit or a walk to explore ,all within a very short drive from our Gite. The Haybarn offered such a warm welcome that we ventured out early to try and get back to spend more time sitting in the gardens, soaking up the afternoon sun and chatting with the other guests . By the end of our week we were loath to leave and have pledged to return for a longer stay next time.
From reading this you would be forgiven to think we are related to Philippa and Paul , but read all the other reviews and you will come to the same conclusion, they add all of their lucky guests to their growing family of admirers and they collect the praise well deserved after giving us all the holidays we have dreamed of.

We had a lovely time in your glorious region. The simple gems like kayaking the pretty river Vezere from St Leon, cooking the BBQ for the 14 of us chez vous using local produce, visiting Marius the donkey at Le Moustier during a fun terrace meal at Napoleonienne. Oh, and strolling scenic St Genies and St Amand de Coly, both recommended by you, enjoying very much the new PIP, gardens at Eyrignac, and the clinging villages beside the Dordogne escarpments.
Another activity literally on the doorstep and within view of your *** home was La Roque St Christophe. We all agreed that this living museum was not to be missed.
To be able to call Le Manoir des Granges our home for a week was a perfect holiday in every way. It is also very cost effective per couple.
The accommodation provided a bathroom of their own for every one of the seven couples that made up our party, over the main house and Tobacco barn.
We had ample outdoor and indoor living space to all socialise together, a pool which we unexpectedly did use in the third week of September because the weather was good, and the appreciated washing machine and clothesline, with the added help of running off on an excursion and having Philippa kindly put the clothes on the line!
That is well beyond the call of duty, as was phoning restaurants for us, running up to close all bedroom windows when an unexpected hailstorm came, and advice on hidden gems so thank-you again Philippa and Paul, it did not go unnoticed.
