There were no surprises here, other than relaxation. As early season guests the 3 of us had the place to ourselves. Paul and Philippa were warm, friendly and very accommodating. They helped us navigate getting a bicycle, finding a wonderful local restaurant, and leading us to the most delicious and reasonable wine purchases in the area. The Tobacco Barn was quite comfortable for us 3 ladies, we had our own rooms with en-suite bathrooms, nice shared living space and kitchen with all of the amenities to make breakfast and lunches...we went out for dinner most nights:). The village of Le Moustier was within walking distance...fresh croissants at the boulangerie every morning. We felt honored to be residing across from the caves of St Christophe, an *** historical site. Lovely time, lovely accommodations.

Stayed for a week while we researched the area with a view to buying a gite complex of our own, Le Manoir des Granges is pretty close to the type of property that we are looking to buy. Paul and Phillipa were perfect hosts and were more than happy showing us around and answering our many questions about the pros and cons of owning a gite complex.
We enjoyed our stay in the Haybarn which is a spacious, one bedroom ensuite gite with it's own terrace. The evenings were cold so it was great to have the wood burner to take the chill off.
It's a great location for exploring the area with many tourist attractions within an easy drive. But it's also a good place to do nothing and laze by the pool if that's what you are after. The view of La Roque Saint-Christophe which is opposite looks amazing at night when it's all lit up.
Once again, thanks to Paul and Phillipa for all their help and advice.

Staying in Le Roque Terrace was lovely. I've never stayed in a gite before and was a little disheartened by reviews that I had read about many of them. I was on my own, having lost my husband two months previously and needed somewhere quiet but accessible. This fitted the bill brilliantly.
Five minutes walk from the little village of Le Moustier, with its boulangerie and great little bar, Le Roque faces a main but relatively quiet road running parallel to the lovely River Vezere. On waking, I could stand at the French windows and view the stunning Roque St Christophe, just over the river, and wait for the sun to beat down on the wooden terrace.
I explored the region, visiting well known spots along the Dordogne, but it was always good to come back to Le Moustier. It is a great place to be based - lovely Saint Leon a couple of miles down the river, the beautiful little town of Montargnac.
The owners, Paul and Philippa Ward, could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and the gite itself was extremely clean, well laid out, equipped and comfortable. It was more than enough for one person - two people would find it spacious.
I will return.

We're just back from a most enjoyable week in La Roque Terrasse. Despite some variable weather it was ideally suited to our needs. Clean, spacious and with a fantastic view of La Roque Saint-Christophe.
Paul and Philippa, who know the area really well, were most helpful and, by the time we left, we almost felt like old friends!
We look forward to returning as soon as we can.

Stayed in 3 of the gites with our extended family including the big house - which was just fantastic! Great location for getting out and about - both walking and in the car. Lots to see and do in this fascinating area of France.
Paul and Philippa are great hosts - they go out of their way to make you feel welcome in their beautiful home. They're very helpful and willing to offer advice about local amenities - If they don't know the answer, they'll find out. They are helpful but not intrusive!

Visited Le Manoir for my 3rd time. Paul and Philippa are two of the nicest and most helpful people you could wish to meet and are wonderful hosts. The house is very well equipped and comfortable with ample space. Le Manoir is well heated for those colder nights and there is a lovely log fire to doze in front of! The house is located with views over Le Roque St Christophe and a few minutes walk from the River Vezere. It is an ideal base for exploring the Dordogne. The house is a few minutes walk from the village centre where there is a boulangerie and local bar. I can recommend the croissants and local beer! Will most definitely visit again.

We stayed in Le Manoir des Granges on one of our visits to France. Rooms are spacious and all with en suite. Two swimming pools are a big bonus. And the views are outstanding.
We loved the place so much that we decided to have our wedding there. We booked the whole place for one week.
Paul and Philippa were very helpful with organising everything for the wedding. On our special day they were around all the time to make sure everything went smoothly.
The stay was fantastic and our wedding guests are still talking about Le Manoir des Granges. We could `t ask for a better place to get married.
If you`re looking for a small venue with great atmosphere and good accommodation look no further.

We were indeed lucky to find ourselves at Philippa & Paul's Haybarn in a glorious autumn that saw walnut trees dropping nuts everywhere and hot days that still meant a brisk swim in the gite pool. Philippa & Paul had thought of everything : a welcome bottle of local wine, fresh eggs from some nearby hens, oil, vinegar and other condiments, even washing powder for the laundry. This attention to detail is indeed rare. As well, they were both very knowledgeable about places to visit and the virtues or otherwise of different restaurants. The freshness of their approach and their genuine concern in their guests' enjoyment gives real meaning to the idea of hospitality. Our one wish is that we can get back to enjoy it all over again in 2012.

Nous étions 14 personnes, 4 couples et plein d'enfants. L'endroit est magique avec cette vue extra, la piscine, les chambres très cosy, la décoration agréable et l'accueil très chaleureux. Paul & Philippa sont très sympathiques.

We stayed in The Roque Terrace at the beginning of September and we had a lovely time. The accommodation was perfect for use and Philippa and Paul were so helpful and welcoming. It is a great location for a holiday with lots to do and see and plenty of great restaurants. We definitely plan on returning to stay at The Roque Terrace.
